Today, digital imaging technologies become more and more essential in dental diagnostics, treatment planning and patient education. This is motivated by the high information content of such methods and new possibilities to optimize orthodontic treatment based on that. For more than 10 years, OnyxCeph™ provides efficient tools for image-based management, analysis, planning, consultation, and communication as well. OnyxCeph™ as a Windows-based software is developed and maintained by Image Instruments and is approved as a medical product. Using standardized interfaces, OnyxCeph™ can be easily integrated into your practice or clinic environment. A state-of-the-art SQL database in connection with a client/server application concept ensures a persistent performance independent from the number of patient or image data records. This, and the availability of equitable license concepts and reasonable prices caused that OnyxCeph™ is used by orthodontists and oral-maxillofacial surgeons in more than 70 countries today. In addition, basic modules of OnyxCeph™ are integrated in products of partners and as such, also distributed worldwide. Due to the growing disposability and acceptance of 3D methods like 3D scanning or conebeam CT, also dental imaging software needs to meet these new challenges. Nevertheless, one of the basic expectations in orthodontics is the mutual applicability of new and established procedures within one integrative system. With this end in view, Image Instruments has introduced OnyxCeph³™ which represents a completely revised version of its well-tried standard imaging software. Beside the new designed user interface and the enhanced functionality for visual diagnostics and planning options the program now has the ability to import, manage, and analyze 3D image data like virtual models, face scans or conebeam CT records. Modules for 3D soft tissue prediction, treatment planning and virtual dental setup are under development and will be provided by regular updates.
